Elli (mother), Pepe, Gustav and Theo (boy) and Romy (girl)
The pig family were brought to the grove after they were found rummaging around the garbage of an abandoned building. All of them were severely malnourished and underfed. After some investigation friends were able to secure them and bring them to their new home. Here they are flourishing for the first time in their life. They are safe, well fed and loved. At our property they can dig, run and wallow without any concerns. In our estimation they were not bred to be consumed- but to live in peace and harmony.
The first time fostering for pigs we were faced with all kinds of new questions:
· how much food do they need? (a lot)
· how strong does the fence need to be? (very strong)
· they won’t be trying to escape, don’t they? (they absolutely will)
All of them have very different characters: While Theo is a little shy and will hide behind his mother’s back Romy will run to you squealing and jump on your legs while Gustavs wants nothing more than endless belly rubs.
Unfortunately, this kind of care is not very cheap and cost and labor intensive.
